Training for Members of Special Preventive Group of Public Defender of Georgia

On 1-3 May, 2017, training was held for members of the Special Preventive Group of the Public Defender within the framework of the European Union project "Support to the Public Defender's Office II". The theme of the training was: “Working Methodology and International Standards of the National Preventive Mechanism”.

Participants of the training were familiarized with the concept of the prevention of torture, international standards, work tools and practical aspects of the activities of the National Preventive Mechanism. During the course of the training, special attention was paid to the standards of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, which are aimed at protecting inmates of the penitentiary and psychiatric institutions, as well as care institutions, from ill-treatment. The training included both theoretical teaching and practical exercises.

The training was led by invited expert Mykola Gnatovskyy (President of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture) and Nika Kvaratskhelia, Head of the Department of Prevention and Monitoring of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia.
