Public Defender Participates in First Joint Meeting of Network of Persons with Disabilities of Georgia

On October 3, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani participated in the first joint meeting of the Network of Persons with Disabilities of Georgia.

In his speech, the Public Defender talked about the measures to be taken in the country for the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and enforcement of national legislation. He paid particular attention to the necessity of involvement of organizations representing persons with disabilities and organizations working on the issues of persons with disabilities in the realization of the rights of persons with disabilities and expressed hope that the network of these organizations, with its unity and coordination, will be an even greater force that will contribute to the implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities in practice.

Levan Ioseliani also spoke about the mandate of the Office and introduction of effective mechanisms for the implementation of the Public Defender's recommendations. At the end of his speech, he expressed his willingness to cooperate both with the network and with any organization representing persons with disabilities or working on the issues of persons with disabilities that is not a member of the network.

MP Rati Ionatamishvili and Human Rights Advisor to the Prime MinisterNiko Tatulashvili also took part in the event and subsequent discussion.

The Network of Persons with Disabilities of Georgia is an unregistered association that unites more than 100 activists and organizations representing persons with disabilities or working on the rights of persons with disabilities throughout Georgia.
