Proposal relating to Social Package and Household Subsidy for Veterans of War and Defence Forces

On February 12, 2024, the Public Defender of Georgia submitted a proposal to the Government of Georgia and requested changes in the regulations related to the social packages and household subsidies for the veterans of war and defence forces.

The Public Defender of Georgia considered the existing regulation problematic, according to which persons belonging to the category of veterans stop receiving the social package together with the pension package after reaching the retirement age. In addition, veterans of war and defense forces are also prohibited from receiving the household subsidy along with the social package.

With the above proposal, the Public Defender of Georgia appealed to the Government to consider the issue of making changes in the relevant decrees, so that persons belonging to the category of veterans, regardless of their retirement age, could simultaneously benefit from both the social package and the household subsidy. In addition, the right to use the social package should not be restricted after reaching the retirement age.
