On July 6, 2018, Tamar Gvaramadze, First Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, and Niko Tatulashvili, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Public Defender's Office, met with Marian Wendt, Chairman of the Petitions Committee of the Parliament of Germany (Bundestag).

Tamar Gvaramadze talked about the Public Defender’s mandate, priorities and challenges in the field of protection of human rights in Georgia.

"One of the main problems is protection of the rights of the minorities in Georgia, as well as hate crimes and their investigation. We are actively working on the rights of children, women and persons with disabilities, as well as the issues of the LGBT community. We systematically monitor prisons and other closed institutions within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanism, we are actively observing investigation processes. We pay great attention to the protection of the rights of the socially vulnerable people, homeless persons, IDPs and people living along the dividing line," said the First Deputy Public Defender.

The German side expressed willingness to support Georgia in the field of protection of human rights through sharing experience and close cooperation.
