Meeting of Consultative Council for Monitoring Promotion, Protection and Implementation of Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

On February 26, 2016, the Public Defender’s Consultative Council for Monitoring the Promotion, Protection and Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities held its fourth working meeting. The meeting was attended by the Public Defender, representatives of the Public Defender's Office and invited members of the Council.

The following issues of the agenda were discussed: the efforts carried out and planned for monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the methodology for monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Irine Oboladze, Head of the Department of the Protection of Rights of Persons with Disabilities, presented a draft chapter on the rights of persons with disabilities that is to be included in the parliamentary report 2015.

Participants of the meeting presented proposals and opinions with regard to the measures to be taken against the statements of politicians and public activists containing discriminatory/hate speech against persons with disabilities.

Various issues related to the monitoring of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities were discussed at the end of the meeting.

The next meeting of the Council will be held within 2 months.
