Meeting of the Consultation Council for Monitoring the Promotion, Protection and Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

October 19, 2015, the Public Defender’s ConsultationCouncil for Monitoring the Promotion, Protection and Implementation of the Convention onthe Rights of Persons with Disabilitiesheld its second meeting, which was attended by the Public Defender, the Deputies of the Public Defender, representatives of the Public Defender’s Office and invited members of the Council.

The Council unanimously agreed that members of a group which will monitor the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be selected by a special commission, which will include invited members of the Council, within one month in accordance with the criteria defined by the Council. At the same time, the Department of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will prepare a regulation for the monitoring group, which will be sent to the invited members of the Council in order to enable them to present their comments and opinions before the document is adopted.

In addition, the meeting planned activities that are to be carried out in the coming months for monitoring the implementation, promotion and protection of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The activities will include monitoring of the implementation of certain articles of the Convention.

The next meeting will be held within 2 months and will consider the progress of monitoring of the promotion, protection and implementation of the Convention. The invited members of the Council were asked to notify the Public Defender's Office of the issues that they wish to be put on the agenda of the next meeting.
