Public Defender Meets with Minister of Internal Affairs

On May 14, 2018, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria met with the Minister of Internal Affairs, representatives of the White Noise Movement and other NGOs, and discussed the issues around the special operation conducted by police in the night clubs on May 12.

After the meeting, the Public Defender said that the Minister of Internal Affairs promised to hand the video footage showing the special operation over to the Public Defender’s Office, which will allow the Public Defender's Office to study each case of the use of excessive force. In addition, Nino Lomjaria offered the organizers of the demonstration to file applications about each alleged case of abuse of power by police with the Public Defender's Office.

At the same time, a decision was made at the meeting to set up 2 groups, one of which will work on the legislative reform of drug policy and the other one will study the legality of the May 12 developments.

According to the Public Defender, protection of security at the pre-announced rallies was discussed at the meeting as well.
