Public Defender Visits Kutaisi Boarding House for Older Persons

On March 6, 2018, Public Defender of Georgia Nino Lomjaria visited the Kutaisi Boarding House for Older Persons, where she met and talked with the institution’s staff and beneficiaries. She also checked the supply of food and medicines, viewed the building and warehouse.

According to the Public Defender, situation at the boarding house is satisfactory, communications are working properly. However, the yard and leisure space infrastructure need to be improved.

In the conversation with the Public Defender, the beneficiaries noted that the boarding house cannot be reached by municipal transport, which creates the problem of movement for the beneficiaries and their visitors.

In general, the beneficiaries are satisfied with the conditions at the boarding house and relations with the staff. According to the administration, the boarding house is designed for 95 people; beneficiaries have uninterrupted access to their services and inventory. According to them, the main problem is the salaries of the personnel, which ranges from 200 to 350 GEL despite the difficult, 24-hour work schedule.

The Public Defender of Georgia will address relevant agencies with recommendations to eliminate problems in the boarding house in the nearest future.
