Public Defender's Office to Monitor Rally Planned by United National Movement

The Public Defender's Office will monitor the rally planned by the United National Movement for 6 March 2016 in Tbilisi.

Mobile groups of the Public Defender's Office will monitor the protection of the right to assemblies and manifestations.

At the same time, the individuals, who think that they became victims of human rights violations or witnessed such violations, will be able to call our hotline – 1481 (the hotline works round-the-clock, including nonworking days and hours).

The freedom of assemblies and manifestations is guaranteed by the Georgian legislation - Georgian Constitution, the Law on Assemblies and Manifestations and a number of international acts, including Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms and Article 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The State is obliged to promote full realization of the right to assemblies and manifestations and protect participants of peaceful assemblies from any person or group that tries to obstruct the assembly.
