Informational Meetings in the Villages of Baghdati Municipality

On January 29-30, 2020, Madona Basiladze and Tamta Chechelashvili, representatives of the Western Georgia Division of Public Defender's Office, held informational meetings in the Baghdati municipality and its villages - Dimi, Fersati and Rokiti.

Public Defender's authority, structure of the Public Defender's Office, forms of violence against children, protection mechanisms against violence and child protection referral procedures were the topics of discussion at the meeting with public school students and teachers. Special attention was paid to the problem of early marriage and its solution, emphasizing the role and activities of the Public Defender's Office in the prevention of the cases of early marriage.

Readiness was expressed for bilateral engagement in joint informational events for future cooperation.

Residents of the villages were briefed on the Public Defender's mandate, the oversight function of the Public Defender's Office in the field of equality, results of the study of cases and forms of applying to the Public Defender. Locals talked about infrastructure problems, including poor condition of internal roads and City Hall buildings.

Public Defender's representatives will continue to hold meetings with population in order to identify human rights violations.
