Informational Meetings in Samegrelo Region

Koka Mebonia, Public Defender's Regional Representative on Gender Issues, held informational meetings with conflict-affected women and representatives of the Youth Club of the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) in the village of Rukhi, Zugdidi municipality.

On November 15, 2019, at the meeting with conflict-affected women, Koka Mebonia discussed the Public Defender's mandate, violence against women and domestic violence. He emphasized the importance of projects aimed at women's economic empowerment, women's involvement in decision-making, need for researching the women's needs, access to services intended for victims of violence and necessity for support measures.

At the end of the meeting, a discussion was held on the tendencies, recommendations and role of the Public Defender in combating violence against women and domestic violence.

On November 19, representatives of the CENN Youth Club visited the Public Defender's Samegrelo Office and received ifnormation about the mandate and activities of the Public Defender.

At the presentation on early marriage, members of the youth club received ifnormation about early marriage, its forms, causes and consequences. The problems and challenges relating to early marriage and importance of sexual and reproductive health education among juveniles were emphasized at the meeting.
