Informational Meetings in Shuakhevi Municipality

On November 6-8, 2019, representatives of the Public Defender, Madona Basiladze and Giorgi Charkviani, held informational meetings in Shuakhevi municipality.

The rural population, public school students and teachers, preschool teachers and representatives of the City Hall received information about the Public Defender's mandate and activities. They also discussed the Public Defender's authority, the supervisory function for achieving equality, likely outcomes of the case study and the forms of applying to the Public Defender.

The topic of discussion at the meeting held with the public school administration at the Education Resource Center was the situation in schools according to the Public Defender's special report on access to water and sanitation in the public schools of Georgia. According to the Head of the Resource Center, it is not possible to bring the schools into compliance with the country's standards until the water supply problem is not resolved in the municipality.

Social challenges, access to health care and infrastructure problems were discussed at the meeting with representatives of the Shuakhevi district division of the Social Service Agency.

Women's rights, gender equality, women's involvement in decision-making and the needs of persons with disabilities were discussed at the meeting with the Shuakhevi Mayor, the City Council Chairperson and representatives of the local self-government. Mayor Pridon Putkaradze and City Council Chairperson Giorgi Davitadze discussed the challenges of the municipality and the measures to be taken in accordance with the 2020 budget.
