Informational Meetings in the Villages of Baghdati Municipality

On November 5, 2019, representatives of the Western Georgia Division of the Public Defender's Office, Madona Basiladze and Tamta Chechelashvili, held informational meetings in the villages of Vartsikhe, Rokhi and Tsitelkhevi of ​​Baghdati municipality.

Public Defender's authority, structure of the Public Defender's Office, forms of child abuse and mechanisms against violence were discussed at the meeting with public school students and teachers. Special attention was paid to the issue of early marriage. The role and activities of the Public Defender's Office in preventing early marriage were highlighted and the referral procedures for child protection were discussed.

The participants of the meeting expressed their readiness for the engagement in joint informational events for the purpose of future cooperation.

The Public Defender’s representatives provided the local population with information on the Public Defender’s mandate, equality oversight function, case study results and application forms. The locals spoke about infrastructure problems, including the poor state of the village's internal roads, as well as City Hall buildings, lack of access to potable water and problems relating to the sewage system.

The Public Defender continues meetings with population in order to proactively detect human rights violations.
