Public Defender’s Statement on 9 April Tragedy

The Public Defender of Georgia laid flowers at the 9 April memorial and paid tribute to the memory of those killed on 9 April 1989.

"The peaceful anti-Soviet demonstration was cracked down by the Soviet army 30 years ago. This is a tragic day, but it unites the Georgian nation around the idea of freedom and always reminds us of the cost of freedom.

It is a duty of all of us that the names of the 9 April victims never be forgotten," said the Public Defender.
