First Deputy Public Defender Delivers Public Lecture on Human Rights at David Aghmashenebeli University

On December 13, 2023, within the framework of the Human Rights Week, First Deputy Public Defender of Georgia Tamar Gvaramadze delivered a public lecture at the Davit Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia on the topic - "The institutional role of the Public Defender in the protection of human rights and challenges in the field of human rights".

Tamar Gvaramadze spoke about the mandate of the Public Defender, challenges in the field of human rights, mechanisms of preparing recommendations, sending them to the relevant structures and monitoring their implementation.

She also discussed the issues related to the EU membership status and the importance of the 9 recommendations set by the EU to Georgia for strengthening the protection of human rights and building democracy in the country.

The students showed particular interest in the protection of citizens' rights in the process of interaction with the law enforcement structures, the measures taken to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and the cooperation between free legal aid services and the Public Defender’s Office.
