Statement of Council of National Minorities under Public Defender

On March 14, 2018, member organizationsof the Council of National Minorities of the Public Defender released a statement calling on the Russian and Tskhinvali communities and all responsible individuals to apply all levers available to immediately transfer the body of Archil Tatunashvili to his family.

"The member organizations of the Council of National Minorities of the Public Defender: representatives of Azerbaijani, Armenian, Ossetian, Russian, Kurdish, Yezidi, Greek, Hebrew, Assyrian, Latvian, Ukrainian, German, Udi, Belorussian, Kist/Chechen and other organizations and communities offer sympathy to Tatunashvili's family and express concern over the fact that Archil Tatunashvili’s body has still not been transferred to his family.

The abovementioned contradicts the international law of human rights, universal values and rules of all civilized nations and religions, and also blatantly violates the principles of the Caucasian ethics, which is a matter of pride for all Caucasian ethnos.

We call on the representatives of the Russian and Tskhinvali communities to urge everyone having the relevant authority to immediately transfer the body of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili to the family.

We also urge the Russian Federation, as a country exercising factual control on the territory of former South Ossetian autonomous district, and the de-facto authorities of former South Ossetian autonomous district to immediately transfer the body of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili to the family.

The members of the Council of National Minorities of the Public Defender call on the international community, international organizations and civilized world to pay more attention to the facts of human rights violations on the occupied territories of Georgia and develop effective legal mechanisms for responding to human rights violations on these territories", - reads the statement.
