The Public Defender’s address to the Chamber of Control of Georgia01 05 2012On March 15, 2012, the Public Defender of Georgia, on his initiative, started studying the possible violations of rights that may have taken place when the Service of Financial Monitoring of Political Parties of the Chamber of Control was taking explanatory notes from citizens in March 2012. Information about the aforementioned was disseminated by different news outlets.
The Public Defender of Georgia has completed examination of the case today, and the relevant recommendations and proposals have been sent to the Chamber of Control.
The Public Defender has documented a number of concrete violations a part of which were caused by unsystematized legislative framework, while others – by unlawful behavior of the officials themselves.
The Public Defender has given the Chamber of Control systemic recommendations which should prevent violations of rights in the future.
In addition, the Public Defender addressed the Chamber of Control with a proposal to launch disciplinary proceedings against those officials whose behavior violated citizens’ rights and freedoms in concrete cases.
