On July 18, 2012, employees of the Department of Prevention and Monitoring visited convict Melor Vachnadze who is serving his sentence in Penal Establishment No. 17.
M. Vachnadze’s health condition requires attention, and it can deteriorate in case of inadequate medical treatment. He has been transferred to Medical Establishment for Convicts and Defendants No. 18 several times where he was administered symptomatic treatment on every occasion, though he was not provided with the corresponding medical examinations, which, according to the convict, Medical Establishment for Convicts and Defendants No. 18 cannot provide. Due to the aforementioned, his health condition has not improved.
The Public Defender of Georgia calls on the Minister of Corrections, Probation and Legal Assistance of Georgia to immediately ensure that M. Vachnadze is transferred to a medical establishment of the corresponding profile where he will be provided with the needed examinations and adequate treatment.
