Meeting with Students of Gori Higher Education Institutions and Public Schools

On April 20-21, 2023, representatives of the Public Defender’s Office, Gvantsa Davitashvili and Giorgi Kvirikashvili, met with the administration, academic staff and law students of Gori State University's Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Law, as well as students and teachers of Gori public schools.

The representatives of the Office briefed the university administration and academic staff on the findings and recommendations reflected in the Public Defender’s special report for the purpose of evaluating how human rights law was taught in undergraduate law programmes. The representatives of the Public Defender also introduced the practice of the Public Defender to the students and representatives of the administration in terms of studying the educational materials used in higher educational institutions.

Meetings were also held with students of Gori public schools and citizenship education teachers. The quality of human rights education in schools and challenges in this regard were discussed at the meetings. The participants also analyzed the findings of the Office in terms of the content of school textbooks.

The events were carried out with the support of the USAID-PDO partnership programme of the grant agreement between the Public Defender’s Office and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
