On June 17, 2021, Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Ghassan Khalil, Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Georgia, and received information about the position of the United Nations Children's Fund regarding the deinstitutionalization process.

The events developed around the Ninotsminda orphanage, the Public Defender's plans for the monitoring of child care facilities, the shortcomings in the child social protection system and future development prospects, as well as the impact of Covid-19 on children’s rights situation were discussed at the meeting. The parties also talked about future cooperation.
