Parliament Supports Ratification of Optional Protocol to UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Public Defender of Georgia welcomes the ratification of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which represents a guarantee for the provision of international protection mechanisms for the rights of persons with disabilities.

The Public Defender, from the day of the ratification of the Convention, has been constantly calling on the State to ratify the said protocol, which will allow persons with disabilities residing in the country to apply to the relevant UN Committee relating to the violations of their rights.

The Parliament of Georgia supported the ratification of this very important international document today.
