Meeting of Consultative Council for Promotion, Protection and Monitoring of Implementation of CRPD Convention

On April 21, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani held a session of the Consultative Council for the Promotion, Protection and Monitoring of the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in which the newly selected members of the Council took part.

Rusudan Tushuri, head of the joint project of the United Nations Development Programme and the European Union - "Human Rights for All”, delivered a speech at the meeting.

Irine Oboladze, Head of the Department of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the Public Defender’s Office, introduced the measures implemented and planned in accordance with the Department’s mandate to the participants in the meeting. She also spoke about the awareness-raising and monitoring activities.

The participants discussed issues related to the rights situation of persons with disabilities, including: the problem relating to the purchase of hygiene products and medical accessories, shortcomings in the rehabilitated metro station “Gotsiridze", problems encountered by persons with disabilities in getting a driver's license, challenges faced by public school students with autism spectrum relating to integrated classes, gaps in determining the status of a person with disabilities after reaching the age of 18, lack of services for adults in the country and gaps in inclusive education at the higher education level.

The 32nd meeting of the Consultative Council of the Public Defender for the Promotion, Protection and Monitoring of the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was held with the support of the joint project of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - "Human Rights for All - Second Phase".
