Public Defender Meets with Secretary General of Council of Europe

On November 24, 2025, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, who is on a visit to Strasbourg, met with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The parties reviewed the current situation of human rights in the country, focusing on the issues reflected in the report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe; the situation of freedom of assembly, the issue of quotas, the progress of the investigation relating to the people affected during protests and other topical issues.

The Public Defender noted that all the issues mentioned in the 2025 report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe are discussed in detail in the parliamentary and special reports of the Public Defender.

The meeting emphasized the cooperation between the Public Defender's Office and the Council of Europe. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the Public Defender and his Office and expressed his desire to continue cooperation.
