Meeting with Members of Tajik delegation

On 31 October 2019, First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze met with members of the Tajik delegation, who are paying an official visit to Georgia.

Tamar Gvaramadze introduced the mandate, methodology and practice of the Public Defender of Georgia to the guests. She spoke about the ongoing activities of anti-discrimination and national preventive mechanisms, as well as protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, the steps taken by the Office in response to the violation of human rights by the state agencies and the private sector.

Particular interest was expressed towards the current legislation on freedom of speech and freedom of expression and practical implementation of this legislation, response to hate speech and challenges facing freedom of the media.

The delegation included members of Tajik governmental organizations, Presidential Administration, NGOs and the media.
