Public Defender Visits Dusheti Municipality Villages Located Near Occupation Line

On November 6, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia visited the villages of Mikeliani, Kurkushaani and Zemo Shuakhevi of Dusheti municipality, located near the occupation line, met with the population and listened to their problems.

According to the locals, a particular problem is the migration of the population, young people no longer stay in the villages, and schools and kindergartens may become completely empty in the near future.

In addition, they also have infrastructural problems. In particular, the population of all three villages, in their conversation with the Public Defender, focused on the importance of gasification, drinking and irrigation water systems. Individual needs were also identified, including in terms of social assistance.

As for security issues, despite the villages being located near the occupation line, there have been no cases of kidnapping or arresting people in recent years.
