Public Defender Meets with CoE Commissioner for Human Rights
On January 22, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia met with Michael O'Flaherty, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
The current situation in Georgia in terms of human rights protection, the degree of protection of freedom of assembly and expression, and cases of the use of disproportionate force, violence and ill-treatment by law enforcement officers during the crackdown on protests were the topics of discussion.
The meeting was attended by the Deputies of the Public Defender, Tamar Gvaramadze and Elene Ghudushauri, as well as Giancarlo Cardinale, Director of the Office of Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Advisors to the Commissioner, Agata Nieboj and Roemer Lemaritre.
