World Children's Day - Children's Voice Matters
June 1 is international Children's Day. This day serves to highlight the importance of children's rights worldwide, responsibility of the State, society and each person in creating a safe environment for children, promoting their development and ensuring their well-being.
To celebrate this day, an event - Children's Voice Matters - was organized in Gori on May 29 by the Public Defender's Office of Georgia, within the framework of the EU project "Support to the Public Defender's Office of Georgia", as well as with the involvement of state agencies, the Gori City Hall and local civil society organizations.
The goal of the event was to inform local minors about their rights, listen to their opinions and promote their participation.
Representatives of the Public Defender's Office and an invited expert discussed with the children important topics such as expression of opinion, equality, emotional well-being, living in a safe environment, relations with the police, importance of human rights education, etc.
The Public Defender of Georgia congratulates children on the Children's Day, thanks all participants in the event for their expressed opinions, and emphasizes that the basis of every decision related to children should be listening to them and taking their needs into account.
