Bulletin, Periodic Edition – June, 2015
The Public Defender has presented June information bulletin about the efforts of the Public Defender's Office. The key topic in the information bulletin is the visit and important meetings of the Public Defender and his delegation to Brussels. The ongoing events of Georgia, situation in human rights, threats in conflict regions and many sensitive and painful issues of our population were discussed at the meetings held in NATO, the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Open Society European Policy Institute of Brussels.
International human rights organizations praised the efforts of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia in building a democratic country free from stigma, discrimination and intolerance.
The bulletin includes information about the state of Georgians living in Belgium; presents the Public Defender’s position with regard to initiation of a criminal case against convict Giorgi Oqropiridze; provides information about results of the Public Defender’s meetings with the disaster-affected population and representatives of the Government, as well as about the financial assistance allocated from the budget of the Public Defender’s Office to the disaster victims.
The bulletin reviews the Public Defender’s Parliamentary Report 2014 presented to the diplomatic corps, representatives of state agencies and NGOs in June, as well as special reports on the rights of conflict affected individuals and IDPs, persons with disabilities, gender equality, monitoring of women’s penitentiary institution No5 and shelters of victims of domestic violence, the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM ) and the first edition of NPM quarterly newsletter.
The bulletin offers Public Defender's proposals to the government and local self-government bodies; information about events, meetings and visits to regions; international news about situation in human rights; successful cases of the Public Defender's Office.
