Coverage of Gender Issues and Journalistic Ethics

On 5-6 October 2015 the Public Defender's Office held trainings for journalists and representatives of local self-governmental bodies in the city of Zugdidi by the support from the “Strengthening the Public Defender's Office in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region” project funded by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The issues of gender equality, sexism, stereotypical attitudes and gender discrimination were discussed during the training. Discussions were held about the principles and sensitivity of covering the cases of violence against women.

The two-day trainings were led by Ekaterine Skhiladze, Head of Public Defender's Department of Gender Equality, and media expert Zviad Koridze. More than 20 regional media outlets, as well as representatives of press offices of local administrations and city assemblies took part in the trainings.

Several more trainings on human rights are planned for various groups in Samegrelo region within the framework of the joint project of the Public Defender and the Embassy of Bulgaria this year.
