The Public Defender of Georgia congratulates the Jewish community of Georgia on the Hanukkah holiday and wishes them peace and well-being. This is a celebration of renewal, victory of light over darkness.

On the Hanukkah Holiday, the Jewish people celebrate the expulsion of the Greek-Syrian army from the Holy Temple by Mecabees in 165 BC and rededication of the temple.They also celebrate the miracle when olive oil intended for one day miraculously burned for eight days in the menorah in the Solomon’s Cathedral. To mark this miracle, one candle is lit each day for the 8-day Hanukkah Holiday.
