Meeting with Leaders of U.S. delegation

On May 22, 2017, the Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili met with the leaders of the U.S. delegation. The Public Defender discussed the human rights situation of Georgia with Scott Busby, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights at the U.S. Department of State, and Catherine Newcomb, Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The meeting focused on the ongoing reforms in the judiciary system, situation in law enforcement agencies, challenges in the field of violence against women, necessity of establishment of labor inspection and other important issues. The sides also discussed the constitutional reform.

The U.S. government officials will take part in an annual meeting of the Working Group of the U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission. The aim of the visit is to evaluate and discuss the progress of the goals defined at the working meeting held in Tbilisi on June 21, 2016.
