Municipal Project - Strengthening Participatory Democracy and Human Rights at Local Level in Georgia

On November 28, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani took part in an event held at the Tbilisi City Council, which was dedicated to the completion of the Council of Europe project Strengthening Participatory Democracy and Human Rights at Local Level in Georgia.

In his welcoming speech, the Public Defender underlined the crucial importance of the involvement of population in the decision-making process, affecting their situation, for the protection of human rights and construction of a democratic state. These decisions must be tailored to people's specific needs and respond to the challenges they face. And opinions and information about the needs of the population should be provided to the central or local authorities by the platforms.

The Public Defender welcomes the active involvement of the municipalities in the process of ensuring compliance with human rights standards at the local level.

The project aimed to strengthen civil participation in local governance, protect human rights and develop a more equal and inclusive society in Georgia.
