Public Defender Elected as Full Member of Bureau of Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions

The Public Defender of Georgia was elected as a full member of the Bureau of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) at the meeting held in Geneva on March 22, 2016. Georgia’s affiliation with the alliance's governing bureau was supported by representatives of about 100 National Human Rights Institutions.

In addition, for the second consecutive year the Public Defender was elected as a member of the European Coordinating Committee (ECC) of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI), which is responsible for the administrative, management and financial issues; the Public Defender was also elected as a member of the Finance Committee.

The Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) is an international association, which coordinates the activities of human rights institutions in the region and unites African, American, Asian and European human rights institutions. The Alliance is managed by the Bureau composed of four institutions (A status accredited) from each region.

As per the decision made in Geneva on 22 March, 2016, the Public Defender of Georgia was elected as a member of the Bureau from the European region for a three-year term.
