Public Defender Meets with Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany

On February 2, 2017, Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili and Deputy Public Defender Natia Katsitadze met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heike Renate Peitsch.

At the introductory meeting, the Public Defender of Georgia spoke about the human rights situation of Georgia, the ongoing reforms in the justice sector, the situation in the penitentiary system and the recommendations on the improvement of the performance of law enforcement agencies. Other topics of discussion were the work of the Constitutional Commission and the rights situation of the conflict-affected persons.

During the conversation, the main focus was put on the Public Defender's one of the main recommendations issued to the Government on the creation of an effective mechanism of labour inspection.

The Public Defender briefed the Ambassador of the activities of the Public Defender's Office and expressed hope for close cooperation in the future.
