Public Defender of Georgia Meets with Chief Prosecutor of Georgia

On July 30, 2018, Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria held her first working meeting with Chief Prosecutor Shalva Tadumadze.

Improvement of communication and deepening of cooperation between the Prosecutor's Office and the Public Defender's Office were the topics of discussion.

Public Defender Nino Lomjaria emphasized the necessity of providing information to the Public Defender about high-profile criminal cases of systemic importance, especially when investigations are related to deprivation of life, torture or ill-treatment.

Nino Lomjaria also spoke about the shortcomings in the investigative agency, identified by the Public Defender's Office while studying citizens’ complaints. Importance of improving communication between the victims and the Prosecutor's Office was underlined at the meeting.

The Public Defender also showed interest in the investigation of the high-profile cases being actively observed by her office.

The Public Defender will periodically hold meetings with the Chief Prosecutor, when necessary.
