Events Organized by Regional Offices as Part of International Child Protection Week

On June 1, 2022, within the framework of the International Children's Day, representatives of the Eastern and Western Georgia Divisions of the Public Defender's Office held information meetings with public school students, teachers, parents and university students living in Imereti, Samegrelo, Guria, Adjara, Zemo Svaneti, Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions.

The regional representatives of the Public Defender spoke about the importance of June 1, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the regulations in force in the country relating to the protection of the rights of the child; discussed children’s rights and welfare, early marriage, child protection and support systems, as well as the activities and recommendations of the Public Defender relating to the protection of children’s rights.

Particular interest was shown towards the activities of the Public Defender, solutions to the problems relating to the protection of children’s rights and the implementation of the Code on the Rights of the Child in practice. Future information meetings have been planned to receive information about the Public Defender's special and parliamentary reports on the situation of children's rights.

The Public Defender’s regional offices are actively conducting human rights awareness-raising activities, the target groups of which are young people and schoolchildren.

Meetings, discussions and conversations on various topics relating to children’s rights were held in:

Imereti - with interns-students of GYLA Kutaisi branch in Imereti, orphanage caregivers, children and parents.

Samegrelo - with schoolchildren of the public school of the Dzveli Senaki village of the Senaki municipality and with schoolchildren of Zugdidi public school No. 6.

Zemo Svaneti - with schoolchildren of the Mestia school-gymnasium, schoolchildren of basic school No 3, schoolchildren of Lentekhi municipality public school No 2, and schoolchildren of the public school of the Lakhamuli village of the Mestia municipality.

Guria - with schoolchildren of the Lanchkhuti public school No. 3, young members of the Civic Club, schoolchildren and teachers of the Niko Mari public school of the Chokhatauri municipality.

In Adjara - with schoolchildren of Batumi public school No. 1 and children of the charity fund Ialkani, as well as teachers of the public school of the Kedlebi village of the Khulo municipality, schoolchildren and teachers of the public school of the Beghleti village of the Khulo municipality and schoolchildren and teachers of the public school of the Skhalta village of the Khulo municipality.
