Government of Georgia Nominates Public Defender’s Representative to UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture
In August 2018, the Government of Georgia nominated the candidacy of Nika Kvaratskhelia, Head of the Department of Monitoring and Prevention of the Public Defender's Office, for the position of a member of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture. It should be noted that Georgia has never had its representative in this international body and therefore, success in this direction is especially important.
On 17-21 September 2018, Nika Kvaratskhelia and Deputy Public Defender Giorgi Burjanadze are holding individual meetings with up to 40 representatives of various embassies and missions.
An official reception was held on 18 September 2018, where representatives of various missions were invited to learn more about the candidate of Georgia and to listen to his position. Victor Dolidze, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, and Deputy Public Defender Giorgi Burjanadze addressed the participants of the event.
Nomination of Nika Kvaratskhelia’s candidacy for the position of a member of the Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture is important for the Public Defender’s Office and we hope that member states will support his candidacy. Nika Kvaratskhelia’s experience, professionalism and successful performance will be good prerequisites for dealing with international challenges.
The Public Defender thanks the Permanent Representation of Georgia to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva for its active support.
