Public Defender Meets Ambassador of Sweden

On 4 December 2018, Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia, Ulrik Tideström. The human rights situation in the country, the Public Defender’s mandate and challenges faced by the Public Defender’s Office were the topics of the meeting.

Nino Lomjaria underlined the role of the Public Defender in the achievement of gender equality, protection of the rights of ethnic minorities and promotion of civic education. She also talked about the mechanism of parliamentary control, cooperation with NGOs and other issues.

The Ambassador of Sweden expressed readiness to support the Public Defender of Georgia and her Office in implementing the measures aimed at protecting human rights.

The introductory meeting was also attended by Tamar Gvaramadze and Ekatreine Skhiladze - Deputies of the Public Defender and Elisabet Brandberg, First Secretary/Deputy Head of Development Cooperation.
