Public Defender Meets with President of Venice Commission

On January 26, 2022, the Public Defender of Georgia, Nino Lomjaria, met with the newly elected President of the Venice Commission, Claire Bazy Malaurie, in Strasbourg.

Nino Lomjaria introduced the mandate of the Public Defender of Georgia to the President of the Venice Commission and spoke about the challenges facing the Public Defender's Office and independent human rights institutions. She stressed the importance of the Venice Commission's opinions on the rule of law and human rights, which are often used by the Public Defender as basis when drawing up her recommendations and reports.

In order to deepen cooperation and popularize the Venice Principles, the Public Defender of Georgia invited the President of the Venice Commission to Georgia.
