On November 16, 2023, in the Trinity Cathedral, the Public Defender of Georgia attended the civil funeral of those who died in Abkhazia during the hostilities of the 1990s. Levan Ioseliani paid tribute to the memory of the deceased and expressed his condolences to their family members.

The transfer of 20 identified missing persons was accomplished with the joint cooperation of the Office of the State Minister and the International Committee of the Red Cross within the framework of the Georgian-Abkhazian coordination mechanism.

The Public Defender evaluated the process of searching for and identifying missing persons as significant and expressed his willingness to participate in the humanitarian mission within his mandate.
