Public Defender Wishes A Happy New Year to Assyrian People

Our Assyrian fellow citizens celebrate the arrival of the year of 6769 year today. This is a holiday of spring and revival of nature. The Public Defender of Georgia congratulates all the Assyrians living in Georgia on this important holiday and wishes them kindness and peace.

The New Year celebration of the Asurians has an ancient tradition that counts a few millennia. Its celebration is determined by the ancestors' traditions and is related to the people of Mesopotamia.

The Assyrians are one of the oldest nations that have significantly contributed to the development of the world civilization. They became Christians as early as the first century, after which the traditions related to pre-Christian gods have been forgotten. The New Year is celebrated by all Assyrians across the world together as a holiday of their unity and revival.

* According to the 2014 census, 2 377 Assyrians live in Georgia.
