Public Defender Echoes Today’s Developments

As the Public Defender mentioned in his statement at the beginning of the week, the right to expression and demonstration is protected by the Constitution in our country. Any group can enjoy this right, no matter how unacceptable their opinions are to any part of the society.

Of course, the responsibility for ensuring the protection of any right enshrined in the national legislation rests with the State. Despite the pre-agreement that the Ministry of Internal Affairs would ensure the safe conduct of the event and implement all the preventive measures, the final event failed.

In addition, it became known that various events are scheduled throughout the day. The Public Defender calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure the protection of freedom of expression and assembly of all citizens, most importantly, in a safe environment, and to respond to all the violations of the law in a timely and proper manner.
