Public Defender Responds to Death of TV Pirveli Cameraman

Public Defender of Georgia Nino Lomjaria expresses her grief over the death of Lekso Lashkarava and offers her sympathy to the family of the deceased.

The Public Defender raises the responsibility of politicians and law enforcement agencies for the death of the cameraman. "These violent groups have been openly threatening to commit violence, including at numerous public gatherings, for years, especially recently. They have been openly calling their supporters to commit violence against different people. Consequently, the State had all the preconditions and full information that these violent groups were well organized. Nevertheless, no preventive measures have been taken.

Of course, we all want to see the results of the autopsy in time, but what we saw today was inhuman treatment and disrespect towards the deceased and his family members. It was possible to make it all happen more humanely.

I am not really aware of the cause of Lekso's death and I cannot make any preliminary conclusions, but for me this person was doomed and killed by the system and organizers of the rally, as he was doomed to death that day, miraculously survived and then died," the Public Defender said at the rally in front of he Parliament.
