Public Defender’s Office Studying Alleged Violation of the Rights of Those Detained during Gldani Events

On September 22, an authorized representative of the Public Defender met with all three citizens detained during the Gldani developments. One of the detainees, Nikanor Melia, spoke about verbal and physical abuse by police officers. The Public Defender’s Office immediately informed the Special Investigation Service about the alleged ill-treatment and expects a quick and effective response.

According to the information available to the Public Defender of Georgia, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 3 persons during the confrontation in Gldani under the articles of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the legal demands of the law enforcement officers (Articles 166 and 173 of the Administrative Offences Code of Georgia).
