Working Meeting of Public Defender's Office and Personal Data Protection Service

On July 31 and August 1, 2025, a two-day working meeting was held between the Public Defender's Office of Georgia and the Personal Data Protection Service. The meeting was held within the framework of the European Union project "Support to the Public Defender of Georgia".

At the opening of the event, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani spoke about the importance of personal data protection, the activities of the Office in this direction and the prospects for cooperation with the Personal Data Protection Service. The importance of partnership between these two institutions and the need for effective cooperation in the field of human rights protection, including personal data protection, was also emphasized by the Head of the Personal Data Protection Service, Lela Janashvili.

First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze spoke about the mandate of the Public Defender and the specifics of the implementation of his powers. The First Deputy Head of the Personal Data Protection Service, Otar Chakhunashvili, spoke about the implementation of the authority of the agency: the state of personal data protection in Georgia and the main findings of 2024.

The employees of the service discussed the main trends of processing personal data in public, private and law enforcement sectors.

In the final part of the working meeting, the participants discussed the possibilities of deepening institutional cooperation and the prospects for future joint initiatives.
