Public Defender's Statement on Anastasia Zinovkina
Given the high public interest, the Public Defender of Georgia presents information on the case of Anastasia Zinovkina.
Public Defender's representatives have visited the prisoner 6 times since her arrest – from December 2024 - to date. The last interview with the prisoner took place on Friday, October 31.
The Public Defender's Office, in accordance with the complaints submitted by the convict, has repeatedly addressed the relevant state agencies: the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office and the Penitentiary Service.
In addition, the Public Defender's Office is studying the issue of the prisoner's medical care. For this purpose, the Office requested copies of medical documentation several times, which have been studied by a doctor employed by the Office.
On October 31, after interviewing the prisoner, the Office additionally requested a copy of the document reflecting the specific medical care. At this time, the Public Defender continues to monitor the prisoner’s health status with the involvement of a highly qualified doctor employed by the Office.
It should be noted that the Public Defender acts in the best interests of the detained persons and, since information about the health status belongs to a special category of personal information, the Office makes the information public only with the consent of the person deprived of liberty.
We would like to inform the public that the mandate of the Public Defender does not include determining the place of placement of the accused/convicted person, including his/her transfer to a medical institution.
