Public Defender's Statement on Nino Datashvili Case

The Public Defender welcomes Nino Datashvili's release from detention.

On October 28, 2025, the Public Defender filed an amicus curiae brief with the Tbilisi City Court.

The document reviewed international and domestic human rights legal standards. It was indicated that the use of detention cannot be based on abstract risks and threats, or solely on the character and nature of the disputed act. The use of detention is inadmissible - if there are no relevant or sufficient reasons for its use, and the existence of threats must be substantiated by evidence of even higher intensity when the detention is continuous.

The amicus curiae brief reviews the specific circumstances surrounding the detention of accused Nino Datashvili, including the relevant aspects of her health condition.
