Public Defender Visits Temporary Night Shelter in Batumi

On August 7, 2020, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria visited a temporary night shelter in Batumi. According to the Public Defender, the infrastructure of the shelter fails to meet the minimum standards, the building is old and needs immediate rehabilitation.

Beneficiaries of the shelter, which is intended for 50 persons, can regularly spent nights there and get food, as well as medical services. However, the infrastructure of the building does not allow them to prepare food themselves or properly maintain hygiene.

Beneficiaries are dissatisfied with the internal protocol, according to which, they have to leave the building from 10:00 to 19:00. They ask for the extension of their stay in the shelter due to the environmental conditions.
