On July 26, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani visited closed-type Penitentiary Establishment No. 8 and MedicalEstablishment No. 18 for Accused and Convicted Persons.

The Public Defender met with prisoners, prison administration and medical staff. He talked to convicts, received information about their living conditions and inspected the infrastructure of both establishments.

The Public Defender’s Office systematically monitors closed-type establishments, supervises the rights situation of prisoners and the standards that the penitentiary service must follow, and examines individual complaints of the detainees.
