Public Defender's Remarks on Developments in Adjara Public Broadcaster

On February 19, 2020, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria, during her working visit to Batumi, visited the Adjara Public Broadcaster and expressed her position on the events recently developed in the Broadcaster.

“I am concerned as the current developments give me a reason to think that the changes planned to be carried out in the Adjara Broadcaster are aimed at changing the critical editorial policy of the channel. So I would like to tell the advisory board to consider the opinions of those journalists who create free and critical content. It should also be borne in mind that the negative developments in the Adjara Broadcaster will inevitably affect the degree of media independence in the country. Critical TV channel, especially the Public Broadcaster funded by us needs to be independent and today I see that this independence is in danger,” Nino Lomjaria told reporters.
